The updates timeline

Each project has an updates timeline: a running history of progress notes from your team. Clients see the same timeline in their portal, newest first. It replaces weekly status emails and gives anyone who joins the project later a quick way to catch up.

Post an update

  1. Open the project at /app/projects/<id> and go to the Updates tab.
  2. Write a Title and fill in What's new. Plain, specific updates work best: what was done, what is next and anything you need from the client.
  3. Select Post update.

Client contacts receive an email about new updates, depending on their notification settings. The email links straight to the update in their portal.

Edit or delete an update

The person who posted an update can edit it to fix a typo or add a detail. The author, or an owner or admin, can select Delete to remove one that was posted by mistake. Deleted updates are removed from the timeline for everyone.

What to post

Some ideas for useful updates:

  • A short summary at the end of each week or each sprint.
  • A note when a new round of work is ready for review, linking it to an approval.
  • A heads-up when a date moves, with the reason.
  • A closing update at handover, summarizing what was delivered and where to find it.

Comments

Comments let your team and your client discuss a specific item. You can comment on:

  • Approvals
  • Requests
  • Updates

Because each comment is attached to the item it is about, feedback for round two stays with round two, and nobody has to search an inbox for context. For feedback on a file, request an approval on it and discuss it there.

Who can comment

Team members and the invited contacts of the client can comment on items in that client's projects. Each comment shows the author's name and whether they are on your team or the client's side.

Deleting comments

You can delete your own comments. Comments cannot be edited, so if you need to correct one, delete it and post it again.

Notifications for comments

New comments trigger an email to the people involved, depending on each person's notification settings. If you prefer fewer emails, switch comments to the daily digest. See notifications.

When the workspace is read-only

If your trial has ended or your subscription has finished, the workspace is read-only. Everyone can still read the timeline and existing comments, but new updates and comments are paused until you choose a plan on the billing page.
